Having taught secondary science for 17 years in both mainstream schools and out-of-school provision and having delivered online lessons very successfully during the Covid-19 pandemic, I decided in September 2021 to use my teaching experience to focus on being a KS3 science tutor, KS4 science tutor & GCSE Biology tutor. I offer predominantly online tuition and tutor students throughout the U.K. I am based in Billingshurst, West Sussex and also offer face-to-face tuition locally.
I am an enthusiastic and encouraging science tutor and will tailor my tutoring sessions for each student to build student confidence, consolidate knowledge and most importantly apply exam technique skills to exam-type questions to help students achieve their potential.
Having taught thousands of science lessons at both KS3 & KS4 and marked numerous science tests and mock papers over the years, I am very aware of common errors made by students and difficulties in understanding key scientific concepts. I aim to address any misconceptions and develop student's understanding of the curriculum. Encouragement and praise are key to my tutoring sessions, to develop confidence and an enjoyment of science.
The greatest satisfaction in tutoring, is when students have those 'Eureka Moments' - a moment of suddenly understanding a previously incomprehensible concept. My aim is to help each student have their own 'Eureka Moment' and reach their own personal goal in science.
What is a 'Eureka Moment'?
Archimedes is an ancient Greek Scholar who exclaimed 'Eureka!' (which means 'I have found it') when he stepped into his bath and observed that the water level rose. He suddenly realised that the volume of water displaced was equal to the volume of his body that was submerged - the first Eureka moment!
